Lukacs, György
(1885-1971)
   Hungarian philosopher and literary critic. He was born in Budapest, where he later became commissar of education. When Hitler came to power he fled to the USSR. After World War II he returned to Hungary, was elected to parliament, and was appointed a professor of aesthetics and cultural philosophy at the University of Budapest. He published Marxist interpretations of literature and was influenced by the socialist views of Moses Hess.
